World Busk 2012: Event 1 (Panjim)

What an awesome evening! There were guitars and violins and amazing voices. International classical guitarist Pedro Rodrigues (who was in Goa for a concert) agreed to perform for us on his last evening here.  We were also delighted that Goa’s favourite fadista Sonia Shirsat took time off to come and sing with Pedro, for whom playing Fado was a new adventure (and one he pulled off beautifully).

Gallery Gitanjali in Fontainhas was our venue for the evening and we were happy to see many supporters – old and new – in the audience. Some of these also came up and performed spontaneously. We were also able to have three children from our project at Hamara School to busk for us – Irfan on the violin and Saiba and Gloria on the recorder.

Thanks to everyone for making it such a memorable evening. Compliments from the audience continue to come our way and we’re glad that a good evening was had by all. We’d like to thank Miriam and Jack of Gallery Gitanjali for being very generous hosts. If you’re in Panjim, go visit the gallery and take a look at the art on display there.

Our Facebook page has lots more images from this busk. Go take a look. (And ‘Like’ our page while you’re visiting 🙂

Coming up on Saturday 16 June:  World Busk Event 2 at Literati Bookshop Calangute. Performers include violins, cellos and one of Goa’s biggest bands! Be there. (If you’d like to volunteer in any way to help with the evening, please contact us. Thanks!)
